Empowered Giving for a Fairer Future – Ep 8 with Cat Fay

‘Empowered Giving for a Fairer Future’ is an inspiring new series of short videos from Australians Investing In Women featuring some of Australia’s most influential voices in philanthropy.

In episode 8 Caitriona (Cat) Fay, Managing Partner at Perpetual shares insights on how philanthropy can be more impactful when aligned with personal values and informed decision-making. She emphasises the importance of applying a gender lens to grant-making, ensuring donations contribute to equitable community benefits. Cat highlights an example of this approach in medical research, which has historically favoured men. She highlights that the development of the HPV vaccine as an example of philanthropy driving meaningful change. She also recognises philanthropists who challenge the status quo, such as Georgia Mathews, who has increased support for LGBTQ+ communities nationally, and Vera Ramaciotti whose investments led to medical breakthroughs like the cochlear implant.

Looking to the future, Cat encourages donors to remain human-focused despite advancements in AI and digital technologies. Her advice for newcomers is straightforward: “Find trusted organisations, support them long-term, and listen to their needs.” Thoughtful giving, she believes, creates lasting impact.
