Raising awareness of heart disease in women

Project Description

Her Heart speaks to women, about women, and for women. The organisation is committed to working with women to raise awareness of heart disease – few are aware that we lose 1 woman every hour to heart disease in Australia, that’s 24 a day and it kills more women than all cancers combined. Her Heart is Australia’s only not-for-profit focused on heart health for women.

All funds generated directly support our awareness campaigns to our community of women (for example via the Her Heart Hub website, and our social media). There are also projects that raise awareness in our Professional Community through encouraging more women to be included in critical research studies and developing unique programs geared towards ensuring equality to women in all aspects of heart health.

Expected Outcomes

We are seeking critical funding to continue our mission to:

  • Improve the heart health of Australian women with long-lasting impact
  • To continue to be the ‘go-to’ place for women to access accurate (evidence-based) information
  • To ensure gender equity and make women’s heart health a top priority in the health, government, business and community sectors
  • To provide motivation and education to every woman
  • To stimulate and drive change through awareness, education and prevention,
  • To advocate for increased investment in the promotion of women’s heart health and position Australia as a leader in reducing the death toll

Project Data & Lessons

At Her Heart, we are committed to ensuring all our activities are evidence and research based. We are keen to create projects that respond to the needs of our community.

One example is our “Find a Female Cardiologist" which allows women from around Australia to find a woman cardiologist (in a selected field) in their local area. This has been extremely successful due to the fact that women are often treated differently (feeling “heard & understood”) by a woman Cardiologist. We are seeking funds to expand this service so that those women in more remote areas of Australia also have access and can find a male cardiologist who specialises in women’s health.

Her Heart works hard to ensure significant reach and well-established impact across all our activities and where appropriate, outcomes of all services are shared publicly across our Her Heart Hub (website), social media platforms and documented in our annual report.

We continuously monitor our impact through a variety of key performance indicators that include (but are not exclusive to) critical feedback from our community (both public and professional) plus our digital analytics.

Her Heart has robust internal reporting to the Board, is compliant across all aspects of Governance such as reporting annually to the ACNC. We also publish an Annual Report, which is available for review on our website.
