When crisis occurs, people’s lives change in an instant. Death, injury, displacement, and the destruction of infrastructure and institutions affect entire communities as a result. When fleeing from war or escaping disaster, there is little time to think of taking anything but the clothes on your back. Too often, in the wake of crisis, the unique needs of women and girls are ignored or simply forgotten in response efforts and women and girls are left without the basics. UN Women works to ensure that when crisis hits, women and girls have the essentials they need by providing dignity kits, which include sanitary pads, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, underwear to restore their sense of dignity and a torch to help keep them safe. Just $20 can provide a dignity kit for a woman or girl in a crisis.
UN Women aims to leave no woman behind when disaster and crisis occur. With public support, we can ensure we are there where and when we are needed, to provide women and girls with the essential they need to restore their health, dignity and wellbeing.
