Motherless Daughters Australia (MDA) is the only organisation in Australia solely focused on women and girls who have experienced mother loss.
There are 3.7 million women and girls across Australia, and of those, 1.2 million lost their mothers when they were between the ages of 0-44 (ABS statistics).
We currently have 5000+ active members engaged with MDA and in order to better understand our current and potential community to inform future projects and initiatives, we require some preliminary research. This will involve one on one interviews and conversations with 12 women who are engaged with MDA .
Further, we hope that this research will enable us to better connect with potential donors and partners, by demonstrating our ‘why’ through evidenced based research.
- A clearer understanding of the different segments within our community and how their grief journey's are similar/different.
- An understanding of when women are most likely to seek support and where they are looking for it.
- The role of different social and community networks and their ability to support and influence women who have experienced mother loss.
- The barriers for women and girls to seek support from organisations like MDA (ie lack of awareness or something else?).
The outcomes of said research will enable MDA to better understand the needs of our community to further inform our support services and offerings. Further, we anticipate that having access to our own evidence based research will enable us to better connect with potential donors and enhance our opportunity to access government funding.
Research findings into mother loss will provide the foundations we need to inform a number of methods of use.
- Findings will inform proposals and communications to potential sponsors, donors and levels of government
- Assist in the development of future programs and initiatives across different community segments
- Assist in the development of multiple pieces of collateral to ensure MDA resources are meeting the needs of our immediate and broader community.
- Will help to develop language and community strategies to drive inclusivity and engagement to overcome participation barriers.
By acknowledging the differences between males and females we can raise the bar on the effectiveness of all philanthropy.
